How Many Feet of Separation is Needed?

Dear Booster Bob,

When using a wireless repeater, how much separation do I need between my internal and external antennas?

When you purchase any cell signal booster, there needs to be separation between the external antenna and  base unit. There also needs to be separation between the external antenna and internal antenna if one is necessary. It’s because if there isn’t separation, there’s interference when they’re too close and that leads to the product not working.

For Wi Ex products, it’s usually 15 feet of vertical separation between the external antenna and the base unit. Wilson Electronics cell boosters usually needs more separation. Wilson In-building kits need 70 feet of separation for larger coverage areas and the other in-building kit requires at least 20 feet of separation. It’s less separation with mobile and marine booster kits. When you’re looking to improve the signal inside your house, it’s important to have separation because the unit won’t work otherwise.
