In 2010, AT&T is spending more than any other wireless carrier to upgrade their 3G wireless network to HSPA+ and current cell sites. They’ve recently upgraded their network in 120 cell sites in the Northeast. They’re upgrading throughout the country because their data traffic has increased more that 5,000 percent in only three years. This is mostly due to the increase in smart phones, one in particular, the Apple iPhone. They’ve released the 4G iPhone recently and AT&T needs to upgrade in preparation of more data being consumed.
