Novatel Wireless has given the MiFi a lift. It’s added more media sharing and backup features. The device works by using your 3G connection of your data card and putting it in the MiFi device. The MiFi acts as DLNA server on an microSDHC and will play it to any app or device that recognizes the sharing format. Devices that can now connect to the Novatel MiFi include Playstation 3, along with the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad. Connect with such apps as PlugPlayer. To start it only works with the unlocked version of the MiFi 2372 but should work with other MiFi hot spots in the future.

All MiFi users can use the new backup service, NovaDrive. It allows an unlimited amount of online storage for users. The data can be accessed from most any device that’s connected to the MiFi. The files are encrypted and the router itself can be tracked if lost by using the 3G’s GSM connection and Google Maps.

NovaDrive is available now. It costs $50 a year for a single user’s personal access. There’s a $15 montly service that allows sharing between an unlimited number of users, through a laptop.

These are some of the great features of the MiFi hot spot. Quantum-Wireless has a complete collection of MiFis. The MiFi 2352, which works primarily on European frequencies, the MiFi 2372, which works as the unlocked U.S. version, the MiFi 2200, which works on Verizon’s network.
