Wilson Cellular Signal Boost amplifier is a device used to boost the cell phone reception to the local area by the usage of a reception antenna, a signal amplifier and an internal rebroadcast antenna. These are similar to the cellular broadcast towers used to broadcast by the network providers, but are much smaller, usually intended for use by one building. Modern cellular repeater amplifiers work by rebroadcasting cellular signals inside the building. The systems usually use an external, directional antenna to collect the best cellular signal, which is then transmitted to an amplifier unit which amplifies the signal, and retransmits it locally, providing significantly improved signal strength. The more advanced models often also allow multiple cell phones to use the same repeater at the same time, so are suitable for commercial as well as home use.

Antennas Used…
The Wilson 801240 is available in several different kit configurations.  Setup is similar with all the kits and can easily be done in a few minutes. An outside antenna is needed to communicate with the cell tower.  Magnet mount antennas like the 12″ 301125 are placed on the roof of the vehicle.  This outside antenna is connected to the 801240 cellular amplifiers.  A good place for the amplifier is on the dash or center console.  From this location the amplifier can be plugged into the vehicle’s power supply.  The 801240 has a built-in internal broadcast antenna.

chart2Working…
The new Wilson Model 801240 SIGNALBOOST Pro wireless amplifier, along with the cell phone antenna, will significantly improve the performance of your cell phone and/or cellular data card in mobile and for small area in-building applications. Both the cell phone and data card can be used at the same time in most areas.
Together with the magnetic mount outside antenna, the amplifier’s state-of-the-art technology is designed to increase signal strength and quality, reduces disconnects and dropouts and works in concert with all 3G technologies.
For incoming calls, the outside antenna collects the cell tower signal, boosts it and sends it through the cable to the wireless amplifier. The amplifier boosts even more and sends through the built-in antenna to be broadcast over a given area.

Market Analysis…

The market for cellular repeaters is expected to grow rapidly over the coming years, particularly in the USA. This is due to the combination of the poor network coverage in some areas, and the large scale departure from the land-line system. The CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association) had predicted that by 2007 30% of phone users in the US would be mobile only – more than 60 million lines. This combined with the low population density (compared with Europe and Japan); the fact that only 41% of the US population is urban; the low cell site density; and the fact that the cell network is split into over ten major providers, means that many people will have to use some method to improve their home signal.
