Hi Booster Bob,
We have a house on an island off the coast of Maine. cell phone reception is spotty. We are at a fairly high elevation. We would like to improve our cell fone transmission/reception. Our house is about 1800 sq. ft. Radio Shack recommended a zBoost YX500 unit. Your site suggests zBoost YX510 premium kit (Product replaced by YX545 premium kit). First, what is the difference? Second, which do I want and why?
The difference between the YX-500 and the YX-510 from ZBoost is that YX-510 is dual band while there’s two versions of the YX500, a PCS and CEL version. Each device works on separate frequencies while the YX510 (Product replaced by YX545) works on both bands. The YX510 has a stronger external antenna that pulls the signal in from the tower better than a YX500 unit.

The Direct Connect (inline) Bi-directional Amplifier improves RF coverage in areas with no signal or low signal strength. The unit amplifies both 800MHz and 1900MHz cellular and PCS signals providing up to 3 Watts of output power on the 800MHz band and 2 Watts of output power on the 1900MHz (PCS) Band. Increases your phone’s coverage up to 50 miles or more (under ideal conditions.)Works with all Cellular/PCS Service Providers except iDEN (Nextel/Southern LINC/Mike) and 1700MHz AWS (T-Mobile US 3G)
How the unit functions:
The 800MHz and 1900MHz cellular signal from the cell site is received by the Wilson Cellular antenna (sold separately). The signal is then amplified and transmitted to your phone through the Wilson Cellular phone adapter cable (sold separately). When the phone transmits, the signal is sent to the amplifier through the adapter and then amplified and sent to the cell site through the outside antenna.
Compatible with:
All US Cellular/PCS carriers except iDEN carriers such as Nextel, SouthernLinc, Mike (Canada). iDEN users should use the 3 Watt Direct Connection Amplifier for Nextel/iDEN. Not Compatible with 1700MHz AWS (T-Mobile US 3G).
