I have a 3000 square foot, tri-level home. I have read in some reviews the YX510-PCS-CEL does not provide adequate coverage for 2500 sq feet. I want the best coverage in a dual-band booster.

Which would be your recommendation?

Chris,

Check out the YX510-Premium or Premium plus kit. This product ensures coverage of 3,000 Sq feet or more. The basic YX510 does not always reach 2,500 because it uses an omni-directional antenna that does not contain a lot of dB gain. Here is a link to a wonderful reseller of these exclusive 510 options. They have the lowest prices on the web.

They are authorized resellers, meaning you get expedited access to support, a 1 year warranty, and a 30 day MB guarantee. Their website is quantum-wireless.com and the YX510 is the first product on the left. You can also contact them to order at 1-877-259-4629. Ask for Eytan or Ari.

The Wi-Ex zBoost YX510-PCS-CEL. Simply put, it’s a cell phone signal booster that works with every carrier that isn’t Nextel. It retails for $399.99.[...] It boosted the cell phone signal to my Verizon LG VX8300 excellently. In the one area of the house where my service continually cut out, or stayed at around 1 bar, the zBoost gave me a steady 3 bar signal, which is not bad at all. [...] The zBoost managed to boost the signal through the walls of a finished basement that contain exclusively metal supports, which was likely the cause of the reception issue. [...] The major issue with the zBoost is that it has very strict limitations as to where the device has to be placed. The signal receiver has to be placed in a spot where you get the most signal, possibly even outside. If that location is outside, you’ll need to find someway to run the coaxial cable from the receiver to the base unit. [...] At $400, it’s not cheap, but should be worth the price if most of your home (or office, or wherever you need signal) is virtually a dead zone.

“I am interested in using a zBoost XL500-CEL which my partner originally purchased for office on personal cell phones. This mobel zBoost indicates it works with 800mhz frequency system. I am on AT&T/Cingular in an area where the link on your website indicats that it uses multiple frequencies : 850/1900/ etc. (zip:76048). I contacted my service provider and was advised that the personal cell phones on my account use sames frequencies: 850/900/1800/1900. [One is Treo 68- and other is LG phone) Does this mean zboost XL500-CEL is compatible with my cell phone service or not?“

Booster Bob answers :

” Hi E., let me properly recommend a course of action by presenting you the facts. First, AT&T in your area is 850 and 1900 Mhz. That means voice will be on 850 almost 90% of the time, then it could switch to 1900 when the towers are crowded. No way to really tell. Data or the internet will be on 1900 all the time. So if you use a black berry, iPhone, or data internet card you will need the Wi-Ex YX510 dual band. Second of all, if you want 90% reliability on voice only then choose the YX500-CEL. Third of all, if you want a fail safe alternative on both then choose the YX510-PCS-CEL 850/1900 unit which covers both. Last but not least, Quantum Wireless is offering the YX500-CEL for only $195.99 and the YX510 for only $278.99. You can purchase online at www.quantum-wireless.com and also contact them to order at 1-877-259-4629. They are also authorized resellers which means you get expedited access to support, a 1 year warranty, and 30 day MB guarantee. Hope this Helps you.”

“One of the greatest pitfalls to bedevil a cell phone is a weak signal in your home or office. Not only is it a pain to have dropped calls when you’re trading the dish with your best friend, but it also pretty much negates the point of having a mobile phone if you can only make calls near your front window. But in the past couple of years, a variety of companies have identified the need for a real cell phone signal-booster. Unlike the foil decals you see in SkyMall, signal boosters like the Wi-Ex zBoost YX510-PCS-CEL cell phone signal extender actually improve your cell phone’s reception by significant levels. And, unlike the previous two products we’ve reviewed, Wilson Electronics SignalBoost and the Arc Freedom Antenna, the zBoost uses a wireless connection to your phone. [...] The zBoost works with both CDMA and GSM phones and operates on both the 800 and 1900 frequencies, so all major carriers and most U.S. cell phones are supported. Yet reception for your particular phone can vary by area. Carriers switch frequencies across different geographic regions, so it’s important to check that the zBoost you buy will be compatible with your phone. If you happen to purchase the wrong model, Wi-Ex will exchange it for free.”
