Do I really need a Booster?

Are dropped calls getting you down? Boost your cell phone service and amplify your signal with one of the many cell phone signal boosters offered by Quantum. Signal boosters aim to reduce the number of dropped calls and extend your coverage, providing superior voice quality on all cell phone calls. Cell phone signal boosters even improve the battery life of your cell phone, so you hear clearer for longer. Ideal for home or office environments, cell phone signal boosters such as the top-selling Wi-Ex zBoost SOHO YX545 will revolutionize your cell phone experience, helping you connect with others for extended periods of time without worrying about losing reception.

Cell Phone Signal Boosters

Do you struggle with poor cell phone signal? Well you’re not alone! It is estimated that a whopping 65% of all cell phone users are not happy with their service, frequently experiencing dropped calls, decreased signal strength, and slow 3G and 4G Internet speeds. When you have weak cell reception, slow data, and poor data speeds, a signal booster amplifies your poor signal and gives you strong and lasting connection to your network. Also known as a signal amplifier or repeater, it is important to note that a signal booster is not able to create a signal. Instead, the booster receives existing yet diminished signal from an external antenna and amplifies it over the area that needs coverage.

Reasons for Poor Signal

Most poor cell reception occurs because the user is outside the range of a cell tower, in a dead spot, or is surrounded by obstructions. Distance from a cell tower often causes weak signal, while "deadspots" are gaps in your network coverage; areas where your network is not able to transmit to a nearby cell tower, base station or repeater. Obstructions are anything that gets in the way of your signal, like concrete, steel and other dense building materials. Even a UV reflective glazing on your window can block cell phone signal from entering your house.

A cell phone signal booster installation helps you overcome the many causes of poor signal. Once the external antenna receives the weak signal, the signal booster is able to enhance the signal, providing you with strong cell reception in your environment. Say goodbye to dropped calls and low bars. Signal boosters are a proven networking solution that will enhance the signal in your home, office building, ship, vehicle, or where ever poor reception plagues you most! Learn More...

Interestingly enough, there are also potential health benefits to using a cell phone amplifier. According to the National Cancer Institute, the main concern for causes of cell phone radiation concern is that cell phones emit radio waves that body tissue nearest the phone absorb. Radio waves can be categorized as either ionizing or non-ionizing. Non-ionizing waves do not increase cancer risk whereas ionizing radio waves (the ones that cell phones emit) do and that “[radio waves] from cell phones held closely to the head may affect the brain and other tissues.” There has been much wringing over cell phone radiation in the past years, however, using a cell phone amplifier actually decreases the amount of radiation five-fold in areas of weak reception.

Why Protocol & Frequency Matter

Protocol and frequency dictate how wireless networks communicate with each other. Without protocol and frequency, a mobile phone lacks the ability to connect to a network. It is through protocol and frequency that data is sent, such as web information, texts, and emails.

Although networks may share the type of protocol that is used, every network operates on a different frequency to avoid interference. While the frequency of a network tends to stay the same (because it is government regulated), protocol changes with the advancement of certain technology. The paragraphs below go into detail about the differing protocols and frequencies, and how choosing the right signal booster depends on knowing these networking necessities.

Protocol

Protocol dictates how wireless networks communicate with each other. Protocol is a set of rules and conventions that governs the communication between a cell phone and a network. Subsequently, protocol dictates the speed through which data is sent and received. Without protocol, a mobile phone lacks the ability to connect to a network. It is through protocol that data, such as web information, texts, and emails, are sent.

Frequency

A mobile devices connects with cells and networks using radio waves called frequencies. A frequency is the means through which a network is broadcast. While protocol enables information to be transmitted, frequency provides the avenue which the information travels across. It is through protocol and frequency that resources are sent, such as videos, texts, and emails.

Although networks share types of protocol, every network operates on a specific frequency to avoid interference. Knowing the frequency that your network operates on is key to choosing the right booster. Only a signal booster that communicates with the frequency of your network will be able to increase your signal reception.

Inspired by a true incident. El Paso, Texas. 4673 Newport Drive. Friday, September 21.

Ken’s iPhone 5 had just arrived in the mail. When the white Apple symbol appeared and he saw his new home screen, something very predictable and normal happened: he was unable to receive a signal. Witnesses claim it was faulty equipment that did him in while others maintained it was his distance from the cell tower. Upon further investigation it was revealed that Ken lives quite close to a cell tower and his signal was strong right outside his home. Ken lived 6 long months taking calls outside with his now not-so-new iPhone. He eventually set up a desk outside so he could work from home.

Ken was expressing his frustration to his friend Dave and Dave empathized. Due to his own metal roof, concrete walls, the UV reflective glazing on his windows and a number of other obstructions, Dave too had trouble receiving signal from inside his home and suggested a cell phone signal booster. Ken went online and bought a cell phone signal booster for the wrong frequency. The booster he purchased operates on the 1900 MHz spectrum, which would be perfect for a 3G device on Verizon and many other network protocols; but Ken wants to amplify his AT&T 4G LTE network, and for that he would need a booster that operates on the 700MHz spectrum.

Luckily Ken bought his cell phone signal booster from Quantum Wireless. While we try our very best to give you the information you need to make the right purchasing decision, we know that mistakes happen. As soon as he realized his mistake, Ken called the signal booster experts at Quantum and they helped Ken find the signal booster that was right for him.

As it turns out, Dave was right. The minute he powered up the signal booster for his cell phone, he started receiving a stronger network all throughout his home. The investigation didn’t last long after that. He could browse the web with incredible speeds, make phone calls without worrying about dropped calls, and he no longer had to take important meetings from his front yard. For Ken, a home cell booster was the difference between holding his cell phone in his home and actually using it wherever he went.
